Lead generation campaigns make me think of Napoleon. If you’re past the fifth grade, you likely know what a huge army he had and how successful he was as a general, commanding the armies. If you’re an affiliate marketing, an e-commerce site owner, or a network marketer, you need to use similar tactics to generate leads.
Of course, Napoleon wasn’t dealing with the Internet form of lead generation campaigns, but nonetheles, his army required bodies to fight. And if you were a subject of the French Empire and male, you went to the army at age twenty. You were automatcially conscripted. You could always hire a replacement, if you weren’t selected in the draft lottery. But if you were, you had to become a solider whether you wanted to or not.
As marketers, we’re not so forceful with our lead generation campaigns, of course. Opting into a list is completely voluntary on the part of your potential customers. But we can make the choice to do that much more likely.
The first lead generation campaigns tactic is to create a squeeze page that lives on the front of your website or blog that forces people to optin to get your content or to shop in your store. You see these lead generation campaigns all over the Internet because it works very well.
But what if you don’t have a website and you’re just selling affiliate products? You can build a page that gives people only one option — opt in or leave, and this “squeeze” page is critical to your greater success.
Oh sure, pay-per-click works, too, but the folks that buy from AdWords or other PPC source may not become repeat customers. You have no bond with them because they’re buying from a third party. They really don’t know anything about you. You really need a list of loyal subscribers that will take your recommendations when asked and who will buy more than one product from you.
Of course, you can take the next step and ethically bribe people to opt into your list. Give something away! It should contain valuable information, of course, but it can be in any media — ebook, audio, video, special report, etc. People are more likely to trade personal information for useful information
You know you need a list to really make the big bucks, and you can be a little like Napoleon when you’re collecting names and email addresses. Force people optin to see your content or to get your giveaway and you’ll be amazed at the results. Bonding with a group of people that will come to know, like, and trust you is most important thing you can do and it will make the lead generation campaigns that you run successful.
